When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written “‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”
Matthew 2630-32 (NIV)
Neither the miracles, nor the signs and wonders they have witnessed for three and half years, nor yet His mighty teachings were enough to prepare their faith for the terrible trial it was about to face. All of you will stumble and fall because of Me, He warned. Nothing crushes the faith of the believer like the blasphemy and open public humiliation of the Sacred object of Faith. If you where there and saw Him in chains, stripped and crowned with thorns, would still believe The enemy has always used as a strong tool to strike at the shepherd so as to scatter the sheep. When sheep strike their own shepherd they end up in the belly of the wolves.
