For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 5:1-5
In Romans 8, verse 2 we read of the two opposing laws (principles, forces) – the law of the Spirit of Life, which is only found and activated in Christ Jesus, and the Law of Sin and Death which is actively at work in whoever and whatever is not in Jesus Christ. The Law of the Spirit of Life begins to work in the born-again human spirit once the person receives Jesus Christ as Lord. The extent to which this law is activated and active in the believer’s life depends on the person’s devotion and close walk with Christ. The ultimate triumph of the force of life over the Law of Sin and Death comes at the resurrection to glorious immortality or at the rapture. While we are still in this tabernacle of clay, we can draw from and enjoy the earnest, the foretaste, the deposit of immortality by the power of the indwelling Spirit of life.
